Poling is a small hamlet near Arundel made famous during the Battle of Britain as the site of one of the radar Stations. There is an account of the activities of the Radar unit available in the Church. The Poling Parish Church War Memorial is a Stone Memorial with the names of four men from the First World War and three from the Second World War.

Charles Henry

Trooper 1823, The Household Battalion. Cavalry Division. Killed in action 12 October 1917. Aged 21. Son of Charles Joseph and Elizabeth Mary Berryman of Poling. Born and enlisted in Arundel. Formerly with the Kent Yeomanry. Commemorated on The Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

BLABER

Bertie Harry

Private G/43973, 17th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. 33rd Division. Killed in action on the Somme 3 November 1916. Born in Brighton and enlisted in Ealing. Next of kin, Poling. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial

Private TF/231449, 1/5th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 48th Division (Pioneer Battalion). Killed in action 1 March 1917. Aged 21. Son of James & Fanny Haselgrove of Poling. Born in Lyminster and enlisted in Horsham. Buried in Herbecourt British Cemetery
