The memorial takes the form of a Celtic wheel cross mounted on a tapering shaft which in turn is mounted on a three-stepped nase. The whole area is surrounded by a metal fence and the World War 2 commemoration is in the form of an additional stone of remembrance sited at the edge of the memorial area. The memorial was originally dedicated by the Rev. G H Gray amnd unveiled by Lt-Col G L Courthope on 27 February 1921 and rededicated by the Dean of Battle on 27 July 1947.
