(St.Andrews) Parish Church War Memorial for 1914-1918 is situated in the grounds of West Dean Place and is close to Chichester. Public access usually is good. Private 9857, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. 8th Division. Killed in action at Neuve Chapelle 15th March 1915. Aged 33. Son of George and Rose Boxall of West Dean. Born in West Dean and enlisted in Chichester. Served in The South African Campaign and India, Commemorated on The Le Touret Memorial MR.22.

Enlisted in London. Served as Squadron Sgt. Major with the Imperial Yeomanry in the South African War 1899/1902 Included on Littlehampton War Memorial. Buried in Wandsworth (Earlsfield) Cemetery.
