GLASSERTON WAR MEMORIAL

Memorial stands at the crossroads junction between Isle of Whithorn and Monreith, Whithorn to Glasserton Kirk, south of Glasserton. It has 18 names of which 1 is WW2. There are no ranks or Regiments given, only names. It is made from sea washed boulders with a rough-hewn obelisk of granite on top. (Grid Reference: NX427383)

ANDERSON John

Private 240647, 1st/5th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Killed in action in Egypt 29 November 1917. Enlisted Ayr, resident Whithorn. Commemorated on JERUSALEM MEMORIAL, Israel.

BROADFOOT, MM Alexander

Private 130245, 72nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment.). Died of wounds 8 November 1917. Aged 28. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France.

CARSON Robert J.

Private 240355, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. Died of wounds in Egypt 18 May 1917.  Aged 20. Born, resident and enlisted Whithorn. Son of John and Margaret Carson, of 95, Dalrymple St., Stranraer. Buried in in PORT SAID WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Egypt,

DODDS William John

Private SPTS/1424, 23rd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Killed in action 30 November 1917. Born Glasserton, enlisted Hornchurch, resident By Whithorn. Buried in ONTARIO CEMETERY, SAINS-LES-MARQUION, Pas de Calais, France.

Private 32550, 12th (Service) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. Killed in action 19 October 1916. Born Glasserton, enlisted Ayr, resident Port William. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France.
