A statement from Army headquarters in Lisburn named the dead man as Sergeant Herbert Shingleston, a married man with a 13-year-old son, from Stranraer. He was a member of the Queen's own Scottish Borderers serving with Headquarters, 3rd Infantry Brigade. Army headquarters declined to say if the weapon discharged belonged to the dead man or another member of the patrol. |
