The Axford war memorial takes the form of a metal tablet on the inside wall of St Michael’s Church, Axford. There are 13 names listed for World War 1 and one for World War 2. There is an external memorial in the grounds of St Michael's Church which takes the form of a cross of rough-hewn granite set on a tapering plinth that bears the inscription and names; the plinth is set on a square brick base; there is a relief of a sword on the head of cross. There are 12 names listed for World War 1 and one for World War 2. Those names not listed on both memorials are marked '*'

CANNINGS Victor John
Lance Corporal 201491, "D" Company, 1st/4th Battalion, Duke of Edinburgh’s (Wiltshire Regiment). Killed in action in Egypt 13 November 1917. Aged 19. Son of Thomas Holloway and Kate Cannings, of Axford, Marlborough, Wiltshire. No known grave. Commemorated on the JERUSALEM MEMORIAL, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). Panel 42.
DOBSON Arthur James
Private 22995, 1st Battalion, Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment). Killed in action 6 July 1916. Born Cadley, Wiltshire, resident Marlborough, Wiltshire, enlisted Devizes, Wiltshire. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 13 A.

Private 8977, "A" Company, 1st Battalion, Duke of Edinburgh’s (Wiltshire Regiment). Died of wounds 24 December 1914. Aged 19. Born and resident Marlborough, Wiltshire, enlisted Devizes, Wiltshire. Son of Samuel Dobson, of "South View," Axford, Marlborough, Wilts, and the late Emily Dobson. Buried in ST. ACHEUL FRENCH NATIONAL CEMETERY, AMIENS, Somme, France. Grave 3.
