Private 7227, 1st/9th Battalion,. Durham Light Infantry. Died whilst a prisoner of war 25th January 1917. Aged 21. Born Melbecks, enlisted Leyburn, resident Aysgarth. Son of George and Margaret Appleton, of Dyke Heads, Gunnerside, Richmond, Yorks. Buried in VALENCIENNES (ST. ROCH) COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot IV. Row C. Grave 9. Also commmeorated on the memorial in the churchyard at Gunnerside.

Private 44445, 3rd Battalion, Essex Regiment. Died 24th October 1920. Aged 25. Son of Thomas and Margaret Kirkbride, of Town Head Farm, Askrigg. Buried South-West of the Church in St OSWALD CHURCHYARD, ASKRIGG, Yorkshire.

Second Lieutenant, 4th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Killed in action at Inverness Copse in Flanders while attached to the 10th Battalion 24th August 1917. Aged 23. Son of John James Grime Lodge, of Askrigg, Yorks. Mentioned in Despatches. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 128 to 131 and 162 and 162A.
