Notes
relating to the above two entries:- Mr.Joseph Bower died on the
27th March 1916 and both Albert and Ernest as well as two other
brothers were reported as being at the funeral. The Rev. J. Crapper
compiled a list of Jump and Hemingfield War Dead which was published
in the Penistone and Hoyland Express on the 8th February 1919. Albert
and Ernest Bower are on this list. However their mother Mary Bower
may have moved away from Hemingfield in 1916 as she would have had
to vacate the Lock Keepers Cottage, in which case Albert and Ernest
may be listed on another War Memorial. It should be noted that a
J. Bower is named on the War memorial but as yet has not been identified. |
