JUMP AND HEMINGFIELD WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Sue Parry 2010

Jump and Hemingfield are adjacent villages which lie 5 miles south of Barnsley in South Yorkshire. The War Memorial serves both villages as does the cemetery in which it stands. The information below is taken from local sources, CWGC, and local press reports. The Jump and Hemingfield War Memorial can be found on the West side of Jump and Hemingfield Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Jump and Hemingfield, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It takes the form of a three-stepped base surmounted by plinth and tapering column with the inscription on three sides of the plinth and the inscription for World War 2 on an additional tablet, which is in the shape of an open book, placed at the foot of the column. The memorial stands on a raised area with steps leading up to it; there is a cross on the front face of the column and swords on the chamfered corners as well as a Laurel wreath on the plinth. Above text on front face are crossed rifles. The builders were Steele and Wilkinson. There are 54 names for World War 1 and 21 for World War 2.
