MONK BRETTON WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found in Cross Street, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It takes the form of two identical pillars placed equidistantly apart and mounted upon square plinth; the inscription is in black lettering on the sides of the plinth and the whole is set within a paved are surrounded by flower beds. There are 66 names listed for World War 1. 27 for World War 2 and one for the Korean War. The memorial was first deicated and unveiled 22 May 1921. The site cost £300. At an unkown date the memiorial was moved to the opposite side of the road to cailitate water authority alterations to the underground reservoir.
