WETWANG WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found in the grounds of St. Michaels' Churchyard, Wetwang, East Yorkshire. It takes the form of a stone, wheel, cross with octagonal shaft surmounting an octagonal pedestal with a four-stepped octagonal base; the memorial has incised lettering.

COOPER William Baker
Corporal 10636. 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action Gallipoli 22nd August 1915, aged 23 years. Son of William and Clara Jane Cooper of Bankhouse, Wetwang, East Yorks. Born Leven and enlisted Scarborough, Yorks. Commemorated Helles Memorial. Panel 55 to 58.
MILNER Francis
F Milner on CWGC, Frank Milner on SDGW. Private 38899. East Yorkshire Regiment, transferred to 238514, 414th Agricultural Company, Labour Corps. Died home 25th October 1918, aged 25 years. Son of Mrs Mary Anne Milner. Born Wetwang, E Yorks, enlisted Burnley, LAN and resident Fimber, E Yorks. Commemorated Wetwang (St Nicholas) Churchyard.
PARSONS Maurice James
Private 5692. 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, formerly 28712 Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action 5th November 1916, aged 36 years. Son of William James and Naomi Parsons. Husband of Caroline Annie Parsons of Wetwang, East Yorks. Born Wetwang, enlisted Saltburn and resident Skelton, Yorks. Commemorated Warlencourt British Cemetery. VIII.G.38.

Private 65896. 206th Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 27022 East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action 17th June 1917, aged 28 years. Son of Richard and Jane Pickering of Huggate, Yorks. Husband of Lillian Donkin (formerly Pickering) of Wetwang, East Yorks. Born Riplingham, enlisted Driffield and resident Malton, Yorks. Commemorated Arras Memorial. Bay 10.
RIPLEY Matthew Magson
Rifleman R/20137. 9th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Died of wounds 17th September 1916, aged 25 years. Son of Richard and Jane Ripley of Wetwang, East Yorks. Born Wetwang, enlisted Beverley and resident Malton, Yorks. Commemorated Grove Town Cemetery. I.C.29.
