NAPIER Albert Edward
Acting Corporal 14025, 3rd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Killed in action 24 May 1915. Born Kilburn, resident and enlisted Luton. Unmarried. Resident 58, New Bedford Road. Son of James and Ann Napier, of Spinney House, Dunstable Rd., Luton, Bedfordshire. One of seven brothers who served; his brother Ernest Farrigh also died (see below). No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 6 and 8.
NAPIER Ernest Farrigh
Private 291545, 1st Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment formerly 493667, London Regiment. Killed in action 21 September 1918. Resident Luton, enlisted Bloomsbury, Middlesex. Unmarried. Resident 58, New Bedford Road, Luton. One of seven brothers who served; his brother Albert Edward also died (see above). In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Paddington London, Worker at Rubber Works, son of John and Ann Napier, resident 80, Woodside Gardens, Tottenham, Middlesex. No known grave. Commemorated on VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 10.
NEVILLE Frederick
Stoker K/22633 (PO), H.M.S. "Queen Mary," Royal Navy. Killed in action at the Battle of Jutland 31 May 1916. Formerly S.S.103876. Aged 30. Born 16 October 1887 in Luton. Husband of Laura Annie Neville, of 129 Highbury Road, Luton, Bedfordshire. Resident 101, High Town Road, Luton. In the 1901 census he was aged 13, born Luton, an Odd Boy on Farm, adopted son of Ann Stratton, resident Keeper's Lodge, West Beechwood House Farm, Flamstead, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. Prior to enlisting he was a Shepherd. Enlisted 15 October 1906 for 5 years and 7 years Reserve, re-enlisted 22 October 1912 for 12 years, height 5 feet 3 inches, brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion. In the 1911 census he was aged 23, born Luton, unmarried, a Stoker 1st Class, Royal Navy, aboard H.M.S. Neptune at Portsmouth, Hampshire. No known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Panel 16.
NEWBURY Albert
Private 18360, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 25 September 1915. Born and enlisted Bedford, resident Luton. Unmarried. Resident 35, Burr Street, Luton. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Luton, son of Kate newbury, resident 19, Albion Road, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Luton, an iron Founder, son of Kare Newbury (a widow), boarding at 35 Burr Street, Luton. No known grave. Commemorated at LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 41.
NICHOLLS Percival Chase aka Percy
Gunner 920919, "A" Battery, 291st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died on service 26 November 1918. Aged 26. Birth registered in the January to March Quarter 1893 in Luton. Unmarried. Son of Walter and Lilla Nicholls, of 146, Park Street, Luton. In the 1901 census he was aged 8, born Luton, son of William and Lilla Nicholls, resident 138, Park Street, Luton. Buried in TOURNAI COMMUNAL CEMETERY ALLIED EXTENSION, Hainaut, Belgium. Plot IV. Row F. Grave 3.
NICHOLSON Albert Edward
Private 233513, 1st/2nd (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers), London Regiment formerly 4251, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 12 April 1917. Aged 28. Born Fakenham, resident and enlisted Luton. Married. Husband of Florence Nicholson, of 50, Ivy Road, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 22, born Hempton, Norfolk, a Printer, boarding at 6, Gladstone Avenue, Luton. No known grave. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 9.
NIXON Cyril John
Lieutenant, 8 Training Squadron, Royal Flying Corps and 5th Battalion (Territorial), Bedfordshire Regiment. Flying a Farman (Maurice) S.11 Shorthorn, serial no. A2208, injured when his aircraft was involved in a sideslip after a steep bank causing a nose dive into the ground 13 October 1917, died of those injuries at Tidworth Hospital 18 October 1917. Student from Luton Modern School, Luton. His father was B. J. Nixon of The Glen, radlett, Hertfordshire. Buried in RADLETT (CHRIST CHURCH) CHURCHYARD EXTENSION, ALDENHAM, Hertfordshire, Grave 283.
NOBLE George Herbert
[Luton RoH states 2/5th Battalion] Private 235066, 7th Battalion, Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment). Died of wounds 26 April 1917. Admitted to 51st Field Ambulance 24 April 1917 with wounds to the head, transferred to 47 Field Ambulance 24 April 1917. Aged 40. Born Wellingborough, Northants, enlisted Luton. Birth registered in the April to June Quarter 1877 in Wellingborough. Married Annie Clark in the April to June Quarter 1902 in Wellingborough. Son of William Michael and Sarah Noble; husband of Annie Noble, of 3, Lyndhurst Rd., Luton, Bedfordshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 34, born Wellingborough, a Boot Laster, married to Annie Noble with two daughters, resident 43 Overstone Road, Northampton. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot XIX, Row K. Grave 15.

According to the National Roll of the Great War - Section V - Luton:

NOBLE, G. H., Private, 2/5th Yorkshire Regt.
He joined in July 1916, and was drafted to the Western. Front in the following March. Whilst in this theatre of war he served in several sectors and took part in almost continuous fighting until severely wounded in action. He was invalided to hospital at Etaples, where he died from the effects of his wounds on April 26th, 1917. He was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

Brother of Ernest Norris, of 8, Church St., Slip End, Luton, Bedfordshire. In the 1901 census he was aged 10, born Bedfordshire, son of Alfred and Alice Norris, resident Luton Road, Slip End, Caddington, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Slip End, a General Labourer, son of Alfred and Alice Norris, resident Slip End, Luton, Caddington, Bedfordshire. Buried in NIEDERZWEHREN CEMETERY, KASSEL, Hessen, Germany. Plot VI. Row G. Grave 5.
NORTHWOOD Arthur George
Private 41061, 1st/4th Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). Killed in action 26 April 1918. Bord Caddington, Beds, enlisted Luton. Unmarried. Resident 118, Wellington Street, Luton. Brother of Thomas (beow). In the 1901 census he was aged 2, born Luton, son of Francis G and Elizabeth Northwood, brother of Thomas Northwood, resident 57, Chase Street, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 12, born Woodside, Beds, at school, son of Francis and Elizabeth Northwood, brother of Thomas Northwood, resident 42, Dorset Street, Luton. No known grave. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 19 and 20.

Private 26295, 122nd Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) formerly 229247, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 4 December 1916. Born and enlisted Luton, Bedfordshire. Unmarried. Resident 118, Wellington Street, Luton. Brother of Arthur George (above). In the 1901 census he was aged 9, born Luton, son of Francis G and Elizabeth Northwood, brother of Arthur G Northwood, resident 57, Chase Street, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Luton, Beds, a General Labourer, son of Francis and Elizabeth Northwood, brother of Arthur Northwood, resident 42, Dorset Street, Luton. Buried at VOORMEZEELE ENCLOSURES NO.1 AND NO.2, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot I. Row D. Grave 27.
NORTON Edward
Sergeant 277640, 1st/7th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry formerly 2356, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 10 September 1918. Born and enlisted Luton, Bedfordshire. Married. Resident 22, Pondwicks Road, Luton. In the 1901 census he was aged 20, born Stotfold, Bedfordshire, a Brass Fitter, son-in-law to Alfred and Mary Ann Carter, resident 33, Salisbury Road, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 30, born Bedfordshire, a Brass Fitter, husband of Agnes Norton, resident 22, Pondwicks Road, Luton. No known grave. Commemorated on VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 9.
