The memorial is located on the village green, at the High Street and New Street junction, Cheddington. It takes the form of a granite obelisk mounted on a plinth and square base set within a hedged enclosure. Latin cross positioned on front face of obelisk with inscription on a tablet in black lettering on plinth. Unveiled and dedicated 24 December 1922, attended by Rev. W.H.H. Elliott.

Son of Mrs. Rachael Cooper, of Cheddington, Buckinghamshire. Gardener by trade. Enlisted 5 October 1915 for the duration of Hostilities. height 5 feet 6 inches, chest 37 inches, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion. Son of Arthur and Annie Tompkins; husband of Emma Mary Tompkins, of 32, Milton Avenue, Harlesden, London, married 25 December 1907 in Hammersmith. Admitted to Countess Of Rosebery's Infants' School, Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, 1888, son of Arthur Tompkins, resident Cheddington, transferred to National School 27 July 1892. Enlisted 7 August 1915 for the duration of hostilities. Height 5 feet 7½ inches, chest 35 inches. brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion. Carpenter and Joiner by trade. Flying out of Linton-on-Ouse in a Handley Page Halifax II, serial number DT647, on night operations to berlin, he waskilled when his aircraft was shot down 40km north-west of the island of Juist by a night-fighter 18 January 1943. Aged 27. Born 21 January 1923. Son of Frederick Richard and Florence Eva Ann Saunders, of Cheddington, Buckinghamshire. In the 1939 Register he was born 21 January 1923, single, at school, resident Stowe School, Buckingham, Buckingham R.D., Buckinghamshire. No known grave. Commemorated on RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL, Surrey. SHAND-KYDD John [Victor William]

Leading Aircraftman (Pilot U/T) 1384380, 9 Service Flights, Royal Air Force (Flying Training Command). While flying out of Hullavington, Wiltshire, in a Master IA, serial number T8639, he was killed when his aircraft dived into the ground at Horton near Ivinghoe, Bucks when performing unauthorised aerobatics at low level 19 September 1941. Aged 18. Buried in CHEDDINGTON (ST. GILES) CHURCHYARD, Buckinghamshire.
