WISBECH POST OFFICE WAR MEMORIAL

Originally l ocated in the town's main Post Office in Bridge Street, Wisbech, was to be found on the wall in the public counter area. It is now in Wisbech Delivery office, Cromwell Road. It takes the form of a white marble tablet in the form of a carved scroll. There are 10 names for World War 1 and three for Wordl War 2.

BENTHAM	Archibald T	194995 Sapper (wireless operator), 14th Divisional Signal Company, Royal Engineers. Died sickness 29-9-17, age 28. Son of Supt T Bentham, North Walsham, Norfolk. Husband of Lilian Bentham, 19 Ramnoth Road. Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France. Also listed Walsoken.
BRABBEN	Maurice	57693 Pte, 18th (2nd City) King's Liverpool Regiment. Died of wounds 13-4-17 (wounded 9-4-17. Son of Mr & Mrs H Brabben. Lived 22 Clarence Road. Husband of K E Brabben. HUTCHINSON	Bernard	242685 L/Cpl, 2/5th East Lancashire Regiment, killed in action 9th October 1917, age 28. Enlisted Wisbech. Son of Henry Hutchinson, of Post Office, Christchurch. Formerly 4432 Cambridgeshire Regiment. Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Also listed Christchurch.
KIMMONS	Percy Reginald	6655 Rifleman, 1/9th London Rgt (Queen Victoria's Rifles). Killed in action 9-10-16, age 34, at Lesboeufs. Formerly 24487 Norfolk Rgt & 2/5th Essex Regiment. Son of Mrs Eliza Rudland, Bedford Bank, Welney. Postman in Welney. Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Also listed Welney.
PIGGINS	Sidney J	109526 Air Mechanic 2nd Class, 5th Wing, Royal Air Force. Died Egypt 14-10-18, age 19. Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.Also listed Wisbech.
RANGER	Herbert W	74404 Sapper, SX Cable Section, Royal Engineers, attached HQ Signal Company, ANZAC. Formerly Cambs Regiment. Killed in action 4-9-15, Gallipoli, age 24. Helles Memorial, Turkey. Also listed Wisbech.

BOYCE	Stanley	Volunteer, 13th Leicestershire (Post Office) Battalion, Home Guard. Killed in an Air Raid 17 July 1941. Aged 44. Born 12 May 1897. Son of James and Eliza Boyce; husband of Daisy Ellen Boyce (nee Martin), of Wisbech, married July to September 1925 in Wisbech Registration District, Cambridgeshire. Civilian occupation Postman. In the 1911 census he was aged 14, born Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, at school, son of James and Eliza Boyce, resident Nene Villa, Wisbech, Wisbech St Peter, Cambridgeshire. In the 1939 Register he was born 12 May 1897, a General Farm Worker, married to Daisy G Boyce, resident 79 Osborne Road, Wisbech, Wisbech M.B., Cambridgeshire. Buried 21 July 1941 in WISBECH (MOUNT PLEASANT) CEMETERY, Cambridgeshire. Western Division 3. Section A. Grave 329. Also listed Wisbech.
COOPER	Frederick William	Pte, 5780790, 7th Royal Norfolk Regiment. Died 8-7-44, age 29. Son of Mrs F Cooper, 19 West St, Chatteris; husband of Mrs Joyce Eileen Cooper, Smeeth Rd, nr Wisbech. Cambes-en-Plaine War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
JUDE	Harold Albert	Sgt, 2091253, 18th Division HQ, Royal Engineers. Died of cerebal malaria 26-8-43, age 28, Prisoner of War. Son of Thomas William & Mary Ann Jude. Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Myanmur. Also listed Guyhirn.
