RAE William Ramsay
Lance Sergeant 8228, "D" Company, 1st Regiment (Kimberley Rifles), South African Infantry. Killed in action 18 October 1916 when at 3.40 a.m., three companies of the 1st S.A.I. attacked Snag and Tail Trenches, D Company launched an attack at 5.45 pm and Snag Trench was occupied but the machine-gun fire from the Butte de Warlencourt took a heavy toll, leaving a small group in the trench. Aged 34. Son of M. Rae, of Alloa, Scotland, and the late A. Rae; husband of J. Rae, of Kimberley, Cape Province, South Africa. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. RENNIE Arthur Muir
Flight Cadet (Pilot) 110661, 1 Training Depot Station, Royal Air Force. Accidentally killed in an aircraft crash whilst flying in De Havilland D.H.4, serial number B5519, at Wittering Aerodrome, Stamford, when the aircraft slide slipped, stalled, and nose dived into the ground during aerobatics practice not having attained sufficient height 15:15 hrs 19 October 1918. Aged 19. Born 16 August 1899. Native of Glasgow. Youngest son of Kenneth and Elizabeth Rennie, of "Mayfield," Ormonde Crescent, Netherlee, Glasgow formerly Mayfield, 55, Hill Street, Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Previously employed as a Mechanical Engineer, employed by R Melvin, of Sunnyside Foundry, Alloa. Enlisted 10 December 1917 in R.F.C. for duration of the war, transferred to R.A.F. 1 April 1918. Height 5 feet 4 inches, chest 31 inches. Buried in ALVA CEMETERY, Clackmannanshire. Grave reference E (O). 9.
