FINLAYSON James Moffat
Temporary Acting Sub-Lieutenant (A)(Observer), 710 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, H.M.S. Urley, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Crashed at Port Soderick Bombing Range, Isle of Man, flying in a Barracuda II, serial number MX633, when a wing failed during dive bombing practice, killed 21 December 1944. Aged 21. Son of Robert Moffat Finlayson and Christina Finlayson, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Buried in DOUGLAS CEMETERY, Douglas, Isle of Man. Block N.F. Grave 77.
FLOCKHART John
[Memorial lists him as Flight Sergeant] Sergeant (Observer) 1051161, 39 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Killed in action when his aicraft, a Beaufort IIA, serial number AW352, was shot down into the sea by a Bf109, north of Derna, during an attack on the Italian fleet 15 June 1942. Aged 22. Native of Sauchie, Clackmannanshire. Son of Archibald and Isabella E. Flockhart, of Sauchie, Alloa, Clackmannanshire. No known grave. Commemorated on ALAMEIN MEMORIAL, Egypt. Column 261. FOTHERINGHAM William

Steward, Merchant Navy. Lost with his ship when the Donaldson Liner "Athenia" was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine 3 September 1939. Listed in the crew aboard Athenia according to Liverpool Echo 4 September 1939, page 6, an Assistanty Saloon Steward, resident 13, Moir Street, Alloa. No known grave.

Note: SS Athenia was a steam turbine transatlantic passenger liner built in Glasgow, Scotland in 1923 for the Anchor-Donaldson Line, which later became the Donaldson Atlantic Line. She worked between the United Kingdom and the east coast of Canada until 3 September 1939, when a torpedo from the German submarine U-30 sank her in the Western Approaches.

FOWELL Robert [Candland]

Fireman, S.S. Abbotsford (Grangemouth), Merchant Navy. At 23.30 hours on 9 March 1940 the Abbotsford was hit in the foreship by one G7e torpedo from German submarine U-14, north of Zeebrugge, and caught fire. Aged 33. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fowell, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire; husband of Barbara Fowell, of Tullibody, Clackmannanshire. No known grave. Commemorated on TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, London. Panel 1.

FRASER John Young
[Listed as Driver on memorial] Gunner 14694202, 74 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. Killed in action in Western Europe 10 December 1944. Aged 29. Born and resident Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Son of Alexander and Margaret Young Fraser; husband of Catherine Fraser, of Whins of Milton, Stirlingshire. Buried in JONKERBOS WAR CEMETERY, Gelderland, Netherlands. Plot 11. Row F. Grave 2.
