[Listed as McDONALD on memorial] Able Seaman P/JX 324306, H.M.S. Penelope, Royal Navy. As his ship was leaving Naples to return to the Anzio area she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-410, he died at sea 18 February 1944. Aged 23. Born 13 November 1920 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Son of John and Agnes Sharp Macdonald, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire. No known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Panel 82, Column 3.
MACFARLANE James
Flight Sergeant (Pilot) 1550897, 149 (East India) Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Flying out of Methwold, Norfolk, in a Short Stirling III, serial number LJ621, he was killed when his aircraft crashed at Marcelet just west of Caen during a special duties sortie in support of the airborne landings at Normandy 6 June 1944. Aged 23. Son of Andrew and Helen Macfarlane, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Buried in ST. MANVIEU WAR CEMETERY, CHEUX, Calvados, France. Plot IV. Row G. Collective grave 1-5.

Gunner 1550559, 61 Battery, 31 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. Died on service in United Kingdom 13 July 1941. Aged 36. Born and resident Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Son of John and Agnes McCormack Mack, of Alloa; husband of Mary Mack, of Alloa. Buried in ALLOA (SUNNYSIDE) CEMETERY, Clackmannanshire. Section 10. Grave 249.
MASTERTON John Hodge
Aircraftman 1st Class 974468, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Killed in action at sea when he was lost in the troopship H.M.T. Anselm which was torpedoed by the U-Boat U-96 300 miles north of the Azores while en route to Freetown 5 July 1941. Native of Alloa, Clackmannanshire. No known grave. Commemorated on RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL, Surrey. Panel 57.
MAUDE Albert
Leading Signalman D/J 50295, H.M.S. Bramble, Royal Navy. Died at sea when his ship was sunk with all hands by the destroyer Friedrich Eckoldt 31 December 1942. Aged 42. Born 31 January 1900 in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire. Husband of J. Maude, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire. First enlisted 31 January 1918 for 12 years at which time he was a Stock Moulder, re-enlisted 20 September 1921 for 5 years, height 5 feet 4¼ inches, chest 35½ inches,fair hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, joined R.F.R. 21 February 1927. In the 1901 census he was aged 1, born Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, son of Albert and Annie Maude, resident Windsor Cottages, Alva, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. No known grave. In a Halifax II, serial number W7913, flying out of Pocklington, Yorkshire, he was killed in action when his aircraft was shot down by a night fighter between Grupont and Resteigne south of Rochefort during a raid on Frankfurt 3 December 1942.
