In the 1891 census he was aged 19, born Manchesterr, a Gas fitter, single, son of Margaret Curxon (a widow), resident Roe Street, Litchurch, Derby. In the 1901 census he was aged 28, born Macnhester, a Joiners labourer, boarding with his future wife's family at 65, Darby Street, Derby. In the 1911 census he was aged 39, born Manchester, a Joiner labourer, married to Phoebe Jane with three daughters, resident 66, Vale Street, Derby. No known grave. In the 1891 census he was newborn, born St Chads, Derbyshire, son of Job and Elizabeth A Gay, resident Norman Street, New Normanton, Derby. Admitted to Peartree Mixed School, Derby, 7 February 1899, son of Job Gay, resident 13, St. Thomas Road, Derby, left 14 January 1914 to start work. Born 14 October 1891 in Derby, enlisted Derbyshire. Baptised 30 March 1892 in St Thomas' Church, Derby. Son of Henry and Rebekah Harrison, of 73, Walbrook Road, Derby. To the memory of Gunner Henry V. Harrison, R.F.A., who died from wounds received in action, a beautiful stained glass window has been placed in St. Augustine's Church, Derby. The dedication ceremony was performed in the presence of a large congregation by Archdeacon Noakes, who paid an eloquent tribute to the character of the deceased as an earnest Christian and Church worker. The window represents Samuel and Timothy, and the centre light is St. Stephen, the first martyr. The inscription reads: "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Henry Vincent, Harrison, Gunner R.F.A., the beloved son of Henry and Rebekah Harrison, who fell mortally wounded in the great European War and died August 18th, 1916, aged 24 years. I have fought a good fight, I have- finished my course, I have kept the faith." Gunner Harrison was a nephew of Mr. J. I. Eyre, Chesterfield, and prior to joining up he was connected with the electrical department of Messrs. Eyre and Sons, Ltd. The family at ono time resided at Chesterfield, the father, Mr. Henry Harrison, being in the collector's department at the Midland goods station. Extract from Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Saturday 3 March 1917, page 7: Dedication of Memorial Window. We recorded in our issue of 26 August, 1916, the death from wounds of Gunner H. V. Harrison, who before joining the Army was connected with the electrical department of Messrs. Eyre and Sons, Ltd.. He was a nephew of Mr. J. I. Eyre and grandson of Mr. H. Harrison, recently deceased. His parents have placed in the Parish Church of St. Augustine, Derby, a beautiful stained glass window to his memory. The work has been executed by Messrs. Curtis, of London, and represents Samuel and Timothy, and the centre light St. Stephen, the first martyr. The following inscription is marked on the glass "To the glory of God and in loving memory of Henry Vincent Harrison, Gunner, R.F.A., the beloved son of Henry and Rebekah Harrison, who fell mortally wounded in the great European War, and died at Rouen, August 18th, 1916, aged Twenty-Four Years. 'I have fought the fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith.'" The ceremony of dedication was impressively performed on Sunday evaining by the Archdeacon of Derby (Dr. Noakes), before an overflowing congregation. During an eloquent sermon, taken from the text, "God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son," the Archdeacon paid a great tribute to the character of the late Gunner Harrison as an earnest Christian and Church worker. Extract from The Courier - Saturday 26 August 1916, page 5: GUNNER H. V. HARRISON. Intimation has been received by Mr. Isaac Eyre, Chesterfield, that his nephew, Gunner Henry Vincent Harrison, R.F.A.. made the supreme sacrifice on Friday of last week. He was a son of Mr. H. Harrison, 73, Walbrook road, Derby, who is in the Midland Railway rates offices at Derby, and was a grandson of the late Mr. Isaac Eyre, Chesterfield. For three years he was employed in the electrical department of Eyre and Sons, Ltd., Chesterfield, during which time he lived with his aunt, Mrs. Marshall, at Newbold. Aged about 24 rears, the deceased soldier joined the R.F.A.. in Sep.t, 1914, and was drafted to France in the following July. The information received is to the effect that he was wounded in the head by the bursting of a shell on Friday, 18 August, and was taken to a general hospital in France unconscious. Despite all aid he died the same day without having regained consciousness. He had never had a day's furlough since leaving England in July, 1915, and his mother had been expecting him home for several weeks past. His grandfather, Mr. Henry Harrison, now 87 years of age, and living in Lords-mill street, supervised the laying of the Midland Railway section line between Chesterfield and Normanton. Buried in PIETA MILITARY CEMETERY, Malata. Section G, Collective grave 21. Extract from Derby Daily Telegraph - Wednesday 6 May 1942, page 5: ALVASTON GUNNER Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Turner, of 132, Brackens-lane, Alvaston, have been informed that their eldest son, Gunner H. G. Turner, R.A., has been killed. Just before the war, when 18, he joined the Army. served in England until 18 months ago, when he was postedto Malta. Gunner Turner was the eldest of nine children, and before joining he was employed by the L.M.S. Carriage and Wagon Works asa coach finisher.

Extract from Derby Daily Telegraph, 28 December 1940, page 1: DERBY SAILOR ON SUNK DESTROYER The parents of Ordinary Seaman Alfred Worthington, of 631, London-road, Derby, have received official notification that he lost his life when H.M. destroyer Acheron was sunk. The sinking of H.M.S. Acheron was announced in Admiralty communique issued on Boxing Day. Seaman Worthington, who was aged 21, volunteered for the Navy on the outbreak of war, and was trained at Portsmouth. The Acheron was his first ship, and he had been aboard only a few weeks. Before the war he was employed as an apprentice coach finisher in the Carriage and Wagon Department of the L.M., Derby. A native of Liverpool, Seaman Worthington attended the Garston C. of E. School, Liverpool. When his family moved to Derby he attended the Wilmorton School, from which he won a scholarship to Derby Central School. He has four brothers and two sisters.
