The
memorial stands to the Southwest of the church, St Leonards Churchyard,
Main Street, Scarcliffe, Bolsover, Derbyshire. It takes the form of
a Celtic Cross mounted on a stone plinth the front face of which contains
the names of the men from both World Wars that died. The memorial stands
close to the entrance to the local parish church, St Leonard's.

give his name as Hinchliffe and this is the spelling on his Army
Service Record] Sergeant 295272, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died
of wounds 25th March 1918. Aged 28. Born Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire,
enlisted Mansfield 1915, resident Pleasley Hill. Son of Joseph and
Ellen Hinchliffe, of Pleasley, Mansfield; husband of Alice May Hinchliffe,
of Scarcliffe, Chesterfield. Police constable with Nottinghamshire
Constabulary. Formerly 5432, 148th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison
Artillery. Buried in ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme,
France. Plot I. Row C. Grave 27. His name is on a memorial to employees
of Nottinghamshire County Council who died in WWI and on this his
name is also given as Hinchcliffe. |

Derbyshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 33, born Swanwick, Derbyshire,
a Coal Miner Hewer, boarding in Scarcliffe, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Buried in LIEVIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Pas de Calais, France.
