The Arlesford memorial takes the form of a wheel cross on a tapering shaft atop a plinth with a single-step base. The whole is surrounded by a chain link fence and stands beside the road. The inscription is on the front face of the shaft and the World War 1 and 2 inscriptions on the plinth. The names here have been sorted intom alphabetical order for ease of reading and research.

BACON [Sidney] Roger [Claude]
Rifleman 552660, 1/16th Battalion (Queens Westminster Rifles), London Regiment. Killed in acion 28 March 1918. Aged 24. Born Alresford, enlisted Westminster, resident Clapton. Son of Charles William and M. Bacon, of Alresford, Colchester, and 62, St. Albans Rd., Seven Kings. No known grave. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 10.
BUTTON Leslie George
Private 23533, 11th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 23 April 1916. Born Thorrington, enlisted Colchester, resident Alresford. Buried in ESSEX FARM CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot II. Row L Grave 20.

Ordinary Seaman J/37841, H.M.S. Indefatigable, Royal Navy. Lost with his ship at the Batte of Jutalnd 31 May 1916. Aged 18. Son of Charles and Sarah Ann Garrad, of Marsh Farm, Alresford, Colchester, Essex. No known grave, Commemorated on PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 13.
GRIMWOOD John Chisnell
Lieutenant 5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment attached to 2nd/5th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died 3 December 1917. Aged 28. Son of William and Mary Elizabeth Grimwood, of Alresford, Essex; husband of Alice Grimwood, of 96, Military Rd., Colchester. No known grave. Commemorated on CAMBRAI MEMORIAL, LOUVERVAL, Nord, France. Panel 4.
McKINLEY Percy Edward
Private 16957, 9th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 17 July 1917. Aged 22. Born Fulham, Middlesex, enlisted Colchester, resident Alresford. Son of Mrs. E. McKinley, of Station Rd., Alresford, Colchester. No known grave. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 7.
MITCHELL Percy [George]
Private 15399, 11th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Died of wounds 18 November 1915. Born and resident Alresford, enlisted Colchester. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 39.
PRICHARD [Frederick] Giles
Lieutenant, 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. Died of wounds in hopsital 9th August 1915. Aged 23. Born 23 August 1891. Son of the Rev Charles Collwyn Prichard (1846 – 1918) and Mrs Margaret Jane Prichard (1853 – 1921) (née McConnel, eldest daughter of William McConnel of Manchester and Knockdolian); brother of Francis and Rowland (below). Foundation Scholar of Marlborough College, RMA Sandhurst, commissioned in 1911 into The 15th (East Yorkshire Regiment). After serving a year at Aldershot he spent 3 years in India. On return to England he went immediately to France. He was invalided with frost bite but returned to France in late April 1915. He was severely wounded on 3 May 1915 as he was moving up to the trenches near Zillebeke, Ypres. He was brought to the hospital at Boulogne and then to Queen Alexandra’s Military Hospital at Millbank, London (13 May 1915). His head wound in particular was inoperable. He died peacefully at Millbank. Buried in ST. PETER CHURCHYARD, ALRESFORD, Essex. Also commemorated on memorials at Marlborough College and Colmonell, Ayrshire
PRICHARD Rowland [George]
Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. After only 11 days in France he was mortally wounded on 27th April 1915 leading his men into action near Gravenstafel, Ypres. [CWC and SDGW state Killed in action 24th April 1915.] Born 23rd September 1895. Son of the Rev Charles Collwyn Prichard (1846 – 1918) and Mrs Margaret Jane Prichard (1853 – 1921) (née McConnel, eldest daughter of William McConnel of Manchester and Knockdolian); brother of Francis and Frederick (above) .Philpott Scholar of Hereford Cathedral School and accepted for matriculation at Brasenose College Oxford, but instead, after three years in the OTC he joined the Special Reserve and was commissioned into The Suffolk Regiment in September 1914 and served initially at Felixstowe. In April 1915 he went France. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 21. Also commemorated on memorials at Hereford Cathedral; Brasenose College, Oxford; and Colmonell, Ayrshire.
RICE Charles
Essex Regiment probably Charles Henry RICE, Private 16573, 9th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 18 October 1915. Aged 35. Born Hawkswell, Essex, enlisted Southend-on-Sea, resident EastWood, Essex. Husband of Celia Rice, of Stanley Lodge, Eastwood, Southend-on-Sea. No known grave. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 85 to 87.

Private 40585, 9th [SDGW] or 11th [CWGC] Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 30 December 1916. Aged 31. Enlisted Colchester, resident Alresford. Son of Arthur James Rice, of Alresford Ford, Colchester. Buried in CAMBRIN CHURCHYARD EXTENSION, Pas de Calais, France. Plot/Row/Section T. Grave 8.

Sapper 1890845, 560 Field Company, Royal Engineers. Died as a Prisoner of War of the Japanese 12 September 1944. Aged 25. Son of Samuel Frederick and Mabel Miriam May Pryke, of Alresford, Essex. No known grave. Commemorated on SINGAPORE MEMORIAL, Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore. Column 41.
WERNHAM Robert George
