29th June 1915. Born bethnal Green, Middlesex, enlisted London,
resident Southend. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL,
Turkey. Panel 58 to 72 or 218 to 219.

1448, 1st Lancashire Fusiliers. Pte Abbott was born in
Bethnal Green and lived on Marine Parade, Southend, and was the
brother of Mr. J.A. Abbotts of Queens Road, Southend. He enlisted
seven years before his death and served in India, returning home
on the outbreak of war. His Regiment was sent out with the Mediterranean
Expeditionary Force to the Dardenelles where he took part in the
first landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula. He was one of the 166
Lancashire Fusiliers killed in the attack on Gully Ravine on 28th
June 1915. Aged 28. Southend Standard 23-9-15 for obituary and photograph.
