ITCHEN ABBAS
WAR MEMORIAL
World
War 1 & 2 - Detailed Information
Compiled and copyright © Martin Edwards 2006
The
Itchen Abbas War memorial stands in the grounds of St. John the Baptist
Church, Itchen Abbas. It is a stone cross with a tapering shaft mounted
on a square plinth. The wording of the inscription and names of those
who fell are listed on sides of the shaft in black letters. The memorial
is dedicated to one man with the names of the others following. It was
uneviled on 11th March 1917 by local dingnitaries and clergymen. If
would appear the single dedication in 1917 was to the one man dedicated
and the other names followed later. See Paul Goodwin's UK
Memorial web site for more photographs.
