The Portsmouth War City Police Memorial is to be found in the Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth in the Octagon Room off the South Foyer which is through the south-east entrance of the Guildhall.

Police Constable - 12530 Lance Serjeant, 9th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died in Mesopotamia 26 January 1917. Born Helen Broadwich, Devon, enlisted Portsmouth, resident Cosham, Hampshire. Formerly 6877, Royal Garrison Artillery. Buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq. Plot XXIV. Row B. Grave 39.
BONHAM Trevor
Police Constable - 2459 Lance Serjeant, 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Killed in action 9 May 1915. Born Llansamlet, Glamorganshire, enlisted Portsmouth, resident Trebanos, Glamorganshire. No known grave. Commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Panels 23 and 24.
HAYWARD Charles James
Police Constable - M/26660(P.O.) Ship's Corporal 2nd Class, H.M.H.S. "Garth Castle", Royal Navy. Died from influenza and pneumonia 24 October 1918. Aged 33. Born 11 March 1885 in Portsmouth. Husband of Lily M Hayward, of 23 Brookland Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, Hants. At enlistment he was a Detective Constable. Enlisted 2 July 1917 for the duration of the hostilities. Height 6 feet 0 inches, chest 37 inches, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion. Buried in Portsmouth (Kingston) Cemetery, Portsmouth, United Kingdom. Goodyear's Plot. 18. 17.

Police Constable - 17958 Serjeant, 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Died of wounds 25 March 1918 Aged 33. Born Manningtree, Essex, enlisted Portsmouth, resident Southsea, Hampshire. Son of Edward and Caroline Ireland, of Manningtree, Essex; husband of Julia Plumridge Ireland, of 35, Sutherland Road, Southsea. JOHNSON Edwin Thomas
Police Constable - T.F.204743 Serjeant 1st/7th Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment). Died of wounds 25 April 1918. Born Islington, Middlesex, enlisted London. Buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Eturn, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row G. Grave 38.
POWELL William George
Police Constable - P/5822 Lance Corporal, Military Mounted Police, Military Police Corps. Died of wounds 9 April 1918 Aged 32. Born Caastle Cary, enlisted and resident Portsmouth. Son of William and Elizabeth Powell; husband of Ada Powell, of 55, Ernest Rd., Buckland, Portsmouth. Native of Castle Cary, Somerset. Late of Portsmouth Borough Police. Buried in Lillers Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row F. Grave 20.
PUTLEY Osborne Thomas
Police Constable - 3/9940 Company Serjeant Major, 9th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action 4 January 1916. Born Norwich, enlisted Portsmouth. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, son of Osborne W and Harriett Putley, born Bacton, Norfolk, resident 17, Holbeck Row, Camberwell, London. Buried in White House Cemetery, St. Jean-Les-Ypres, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot I. Row D. Grave 2.
ROGERS Bertam William
Police Constable - 7177, Corporal, 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Killed in action 23 November 1915. Born at Meen Mier, India, and was from an Army family. His family moved to Coleford, Gloucestershire, and this is where Bertie enlisted in 1903 until 1912. He joined Portsmouth City Police about 1912. In 1913 he represented the City Police at football and in a game against the City Tramways Department he broke a leg. This received much coverage in the Portsmouth newspapers of the day. He was recalled for war service in 1914 arriving in France 16 August 1914. He married Ellen C. Shields at Kingston Church, Portsmouth, 6 July 1915. Buried in Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos, Pas de Calais, France. Plot IV. Row A. Grave 4.
ROSS John Alexander
Police Constable - 14611 Private, 3rd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action 9 May 1915. Aged 21. Born and resident Portsmouth, enlisted Gosport. Son of John Henry and Ellen Mary Ross, of 19, Havant St., Portsea, Portsmouth. Formerly 9292, Yorkshire Light Infantry. No known grave. Police Constable - SE/6955 Serjeant, Royal Army Veterinary Corps Also attached to "D" Battery, 92nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died 14 February 1919. Aged 26. WILTON Charles Arthur John
Police Constable - 1609589 Sergeant Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 26 June 1945 Aged 23. Son of Arthur Ernest and Harriet Annie Wilton, of Stubbington, Hampshire, England. No known grave. Commemorated on Ottawa Memorial, Ontario, Canada, Panel 4. Column 2. Subsequently the plane he had crashed in (RCAF C-47 Dakota) was discovered 23 September 1953 on Sulphur Mountain, Washington State, USA. The remains of the three crewmen were buried on the mountain by a USAF team.
