APSLEY, JOHN DICKINSON & CO. WAR MEMORIAL
World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © 2014 - Peter Millward
research - Martin Edwards
There
are two copies of this memorial. The main one in Apsley is in the
front garden of the white boarded office building that was the Dickinson
offices and still carries the landmark ‘Basildon Bond’
clock. It is on the A4251 at the junction with Stationers Way. It
was originally on the other side of the A4251 outside the Dickinson
canteen building. The other memorial is on the site of the remaining
Nashmills Mill at the junction of Belswains Lane and Red Lion Lane,
Hemel Hempstead.
The World
War 1 memorial is arranged in a) place of work, b) rank and then alphabetical
order of surnames, with some discrepancies in the alphabetical order.
The names have been sorted into alphabetical order within location
to ease reading and research. The World War 2 memorial is arranged
in the same way as the World War 1 but without any rank being shown.
There are 228 names for World War 1 and 132 for World War 2.
