ISLE OF EIGG WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information

The memorial is a Bronze plaque with raised lettering, on a cairn at Cleadale, Isle of Eigg, Inverness-shire. Those killed and those who served and survived are listed in turn in (approximately) alphabetical order. There are 11 names for World War 1 8 of who served and returned and 3 who gave their lives; for World War 2 there are 29 names, 26 who served and returned and 3 who gave their lives. The memorial was unveiled in 2006.

Private S/13551, 5th Bn. Cameron Highlanders. Killed in action 25/9/1915, age 24. Son of Duncan McLellan and the late Helen McLellan, of Cleadale, Isle of Eigg. His brothers Archie and Donald also fell. Memorial Panel 119 to 124, Loos Memorial.

Sailor, Mercantile Marine S.S. "Mangara" (Glasgow) – memorial says "His Majesty's Transport". Killed at sea 28/7/1915, age 26. Son of Duncan McLellan and the late Helen McLellan, of Cleadale, Isle of Eigg. His brothers Donald and Angus also fell. Commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial.

Son of Duncan McLellan and the late Helen McLellan, of Cleadale, Isle of Eigg, Inverness-shire. His brothers Archibald and Angus also fell. Commemorated on Pier and Face 5C and 12C, Thiepval Memorial.
