The memorial is in the form of a memorial stone, with black lettering, placed against a wall of the St. John the Baptist churchyard. It has eight names listed for the South African (Boer) War 1899-1900.

Philip Duncan

Corporal 24487, 22nd (Cheshire) Company, 2 Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. Died of disease on 19 December 1901 at Aliwal North. Born in January to March Quarter 1879 in the Croydon Registration District, Surrey. Mother's maiden name Barber.

GIBBARD

Walter

Private 2743, 4th (Queen's Own) Hussars attached to 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) and 2 Remounts. Died Disease on 15 May 1901 at Johannesburg. Married Clara Edith Gunner (born 21 March 1863, Woodham Mortimer) resident Ivy Villa, 128 Woodside Road, Sidcup, Kent. As a widow she received a pension of 5s weekly.

HARRISON

Thomas Edward

Private 7491, 36th Company (West Kent), 11 Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. Died of disease on 26 December 1900 at Winburg.

HOWLETT

Charles Frederick

Private 3672, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. Killed on 11 December 1899 at Magersfontein. Baptised 14 May 1871 in Eltham, St John the Baptist, son of Stephen and Maria Howlett. In the 1881 census he was aged 10, born Mottingham, Kent, a scholar, son of Stephen and Maria Howlett, resident 4, Messeter Place, Eltham, Lewisham, London & Kent.

[Memorial states Sergeant Major] Sergeant 326, New South Wales Army Medical Corps. Died of enteric on 29 July 1900 at Frankfort.

Arthur

Sergeant 10286, 56th (Buckinghamshire) Company, 15 Battalion, Imperil Yeomanry. Wounded on 21 July 1901 at Gannabridge, died of those wounds on 23 July 1901.

Private 7000, 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's). Killed on 28 November 1899 at Modder River.

Lance Corporal 6945, 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's). Killed on 18 February 1900 at Paardeberg.
