Private 252147, 9th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Died of wounds 4 July 1918. Born 27 March 1898 in Blackley, Manchester, enlisted Manchester. Admitted to Blackley St Peter Church of England School, Gorton, Manchester 4 May 1908, son of Richard Oliver, resident 19, Lawson Street, previously attended Holy Trinity School, left 26 October 1908. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Blackley, a school boy, son of Richard and Louisa Oliver, resident 52, Ada Street, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in LE CATEAU MILITARY CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot I. Row B. Grave 93.

[Listed as Private on memorial] Driver 705286, "C" Battery 211th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 9 October 1917. Aged 23. Born Hulme, Lancashire, enlisted Manchester. Born 31 August 1894. Son of William and Isabel Oliver, of 5, Kay St., Blackley, Manchester. Served 5 years with the Colours. Admitted to Blackley St Peter Church Of England School, Gorton, Manchester 10 April 1899, son of William Oliver, resident 43, Middleton Old Road, Blackley, removed from school when he left the district. In the 1901 census he was aged 6, born Manchester, Lancashire, son of William and Isabel Oliver, resident 5, Kay Street, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 16, born Hulme, Lancashire, a Cotten Operative, son of William and Isabel Oliver, resident 5, Kay Street, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot IV. Row E. Grave 23.
O'NIELL Patrick
[Listed as Driver on memorial] Private 2035, 1st/8th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. Died on service in Egypt 24 May 1915. Aged 36. Born Glasgow, resident Blackley, Lancs, enlisted Broughton, Manchester. Son of Cornelius and Ellen O'Neill, of Salford; husband of Catherine O'Neill, of 53, Grange Drive, Blackley, Manchester. In the 1911 census he was aged 32, born Coatbrdge, Lanarkshire, a Tube Drawer, married to catherine with two duaghters and one sn, resident 9, Rockliffe Street, Arlington Street, Salford, Lancashire. Listed on the Roll of Honour for Broughton Copper Company Ltd. Buried in ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Egypt. Plot H. Grave 101.
ORMSON Harry
Private 68238, 1st Battalion, Cheshire Regiment formerly 46953, Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). Killed in action 23 October 1918. Born Crumpsall, Manchester, enlisted Manchester. In the 1901 census he was aged 10, born Crumpsall, Lancashire, son of Thomas and Mary J Ormson, resident Foxholes, 2, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Crumpsall, Lancashire, a Warehouseman, son of Thomas and Mary Jane Ormson, resident 2, Fox Holes, Heaton Park Road, Higher Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in AMERVAL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SOLESMES, Nord, France. Row D. Grave 16.
OWENS Arthur

[Listed as OWEN on CWGC and memorial] Rifleman S/14631, 12th Battalion, Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own). Killed in action 4 June 1916. Born 2 December 1894 in Everton, Lancs, resident Blackley, Lancs, enlisted Manchester. Admitted to Blackley St Peter Church Of England School (Infants), Gorton, Manchester 12 July 1898, son of Francis Owens, resident 46, Mary's Terrace, Blackley, left August 1901 to go to Board School. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Liverpool, Lancashire, son of Francis and Elizabeth Owens, resident 211, Rockdale Road, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Liverpool, Lancashire, a telegraph Messenger, son of Francis and Elizabeth Owens, resident Hamer Hill, Blackley, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in POTIJZE BURIAL GROUND CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Row C. Grave 30.

Extract from Manchester Evening News - Thursday 29 June 1916, page 2:

FATHER AND TWO SONS ON ACTIVE SERVICE.

Rifleman Arthur Owen, of the Rifle Brigade, who was killed in action on June 4, was nineteen years of age, and an old boy of the Municipal School. His home was at Hammer Hill, Blackley, and before enlisting he was employed by Messrs. Alexander Thompson's, printers, of Manchester. A brother of Owen is on active service with the Canadian Infantry, and his father, although fifty-nine years of age, has been on active service with the Army Service Corps.
