Private 26586, 4th Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Died of wounds 3 December 1917. Born Higher Blackley, Manchester, enlisted Manchester. Married Florence Boardman in the April to June Quarter 1907 in the Prestwich Registration District, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was listed as Henry Frower Parke, aged 31, born Manchester, a Clerk, married to Florence with one daughter, resident 8, Crab Lane, Higher Blackley, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in TINCOURT NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot III. Row E. Grave 23.
PARKER Thomas
Gunner 48447, 6th Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 4 March 1916. Aged 17. Son of Thomas and Malinda Parker, of "Arnside", Hill Lane, Blackley, Manchester. Enlisted October 1914. In the 1901 census he was aged 2, born Manchester, son of Thomas and Malinda Parker, resident 26, Albine Street, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 12, born Manchester, at school, son of Thomas and Malinda Parker, resident Isley, Rochdale Road, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. No known grave. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 3 and 4.
PARKIN Leonard
Lance Corporal 12172, 19th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Died of wounds 27 July 1916. Born Queen's Park, Manchester, enlisted Manchester.In the 1901 census he was aged 9, born Manchester, son of Joseph R and Ellen Parkin, resident 24, Ash Street, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. Buried in SERAIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Aisne, France. Row B. Grave 56.

Sergeant possibly Harry Paterson, Sergeant 405368, 4th Battalion, The King's (Liverpool Regiment) formerly 42960, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Killed in action 24 October 1918. Son of Samuel Patterson, of 2, Walker St., Charles St., Moston Lane, Blackley, Manchester. In the 1901 census he was aged 3, born Blackley, son of Samuel and Isabella Patterson, resident 20, Staveley Street, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Harpurhey, at school, son of Samuel and Isabela Patterson, resident 2, Walker Street, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in BRONFAY FARM MILITARY CEMETERY, BRAY-SUR-SOMME, Somme, France. Plot I. Row A. Grave 9.

Extract from Manchester Evening News - Tuesday 6 June 1916. page 2:

HIT BY STRAY BULLET

Private Samuel Patterson, Manchester Regiment, of 2, Walker-street, Blackley, and a former employee of Messrs. Slater and Boddington's, Shudehill. Manchester, has been killed. He was eighteen years of age. Captain Worthington writing to Mrs. Pattersonm, says: "Your son was working in the trenches about an hour before dawn on May 19 when he was hit inj the neck by a straybullet. The men who were working with him immediately went to his assistance, but he passed away before anything could be done. His last words were ' Good-bye, lads, I am hit.' "

Gunner 36573, "B" Battery, 96th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 17 July 1916. Born Saqlford, Lancashire, enlisted Manchester. In the 1901 census he was aged 10, born Salford, son of Richard and Ann Paul, resident 27, Jones Street, Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Salford, a Gas Master Inspector Manchester Corporation, son of Richard and Ann Paul, resident 51, Wiltshire Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. Married Ellen Bowling in the January to March Quarter 1913 in the Salford Registration District, Lancashire. Listed on the Roll of Honour for Manchester Corporation (Meter Department (Stores)). Buried in FLATIRON COPSE CEMETERY, MAMETZ, Somme, France. Plot IV, Row B. Grave 9.
PEACOCK Thomas
Private 85357, 54th Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) formerly 32434, North Lancashire Regiment. Killed in action 10 August 1917. Aged 20. Born and resident Manchester. Son of Thomas and Julia Peacock, of 10, Chapel Lane, Blackley, Manchester. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 56.
PEARSON Frederick

Private 377547, 2nd/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Killed in action 6 June 1917. Born Salford, Lancashire, enlisted Manchester. Husband of Ethel Hartley (formerly Pennington, nee Spooner), of 14, Ward Street, Blackley, Manchester, married in the October to December Quarter 1914, in the Prestwich Registration District, Lancashire. In the 1901 census he was aged 8, born Lancashire, son of William and Mary Ann Pennington, resident 9, Halstead Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 18, born Broughton, Lancashire, a Maker Up, son of Mary Ann Pennington (a widow), resident 11, Fountain Street, Crumpsall, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in CAMBRIN MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Row K. Grave 1.

Private 49265, 13th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment formerly 22617, Shropshire Light Infantry. Died of wounds 30 December 1916, suffered from gunshot wounds to right leg and back 5 December 1916. Aged 24. Born and enlisted Manchester, native of Glossop. Son of John Edwin and Elizabeth Pickup (Nee McDonnell), of 55, Rochdale Road, Blackley, Manchester, Lancs. In the 1901 census he was aged 8, born Glossop, Derbyshire, son of John E and Elizabeth Pickup, resident 15, Midland Street, Nelson, Burnley, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 18, born Glossop, Derbyshire. a Decorator's Clerk, son of John Edwin and Elizabeth Pickup, resident 33, Cross Flatts Place, Beeston, Holbeck, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). Attested at Manchester 18 february 1916, aged 23 years, resident 55, Rochdale Road, Blackley, an Insurance Agent, unmarried, height 5 feet 8¼ inches, weight 161 lbs, chest 40 inches, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, black hair. Posted to British Expeditionary Force, France, with 13th Battalion 30 August 1916. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot XX. Row N. Grave 4.
POLLARD William
Private 5109, 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) formerly Manchester Regiment. Killed in action 7 October 1916. Aged 23. Born, resident and enlisted Manchester. Son of William and Sarah Pollard. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Manchester, son of William and Sarah Elizabeth Pollard, resident 172, Rochdale Road, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Manchester, an Assistant in his Father's Boot Dealership, son of William and Sarah Elizabeth Pollard, resident 26, Oak Bank Avenue, Moston, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 8 C 9 A and 16 A.
POMFRET Victor Leo
Private 40310, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Killed in action 12 October 1916. Enlisted Manchester, Lancashire. Baptised 30 June 1897 in Newton, St. Augustine, Manchester, son of Peter and Mary Jane Pomfret. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Manchester, at school, son of Peter and Mary Pomfret, resident 124, Old Road, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 3 C.
POSTLETHWAITE Plato
(Served as Arthur WARD). Private 201218, 2nd/4th Battalion, Prince Of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). Killed in action 1 January 1918. Aged 20. Born Salford, Lancashire, enlisted Warrington, Lancashire. Son of Robert and Hannah Postlethwaite, of 20, Barnes Green, Blackley, Manchester. His brother Robert William also fell (see below). In the 1901 census he was aged 5, born Manchester, son of Robert and Hannah Postlethwaite, resident 42, Worcester Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Manchester, at school, son of Robert and Hannah Postlethwaite, resident 135, Upper Conran Street, Harpurhey, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 92 to 93.
POSTLETHWAITE Robert William
Private 241821, 1st/4th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment formerly 23096, Shropshire Light Infantry. Killed in action 25 October 1918. Born Wakefield, Yorkshire, resident Harpurhey, Manchester, enlisted Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire. Son of Mr Robert and Mrs Hannah Postlethwaite of 20 Barnes Green, Blackley, Manchester. His brother Plato also fell (see above). In the 1901 census he was aged 11, born Wakefield, Yorkshire, son of Robert and Hannah Postlethwaite, resident 42, Worcester Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 20, born Wakefield, Yorkshire, a HAirdressers Assistant, son of Robert and Hannah Postlethwaite, resident 135, Upper Conran Street, Harpurhey, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried close to the East end of the Church in OUTRIJVE CHURCHYARD, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
