Samuel Patterson, Manchester Regiment, of 2, Walker-street, Blackley,
and a former employee of Messrs. Slater and Boddington's, Shudehill.
Manchester, has been killed. He was eighteen years of age. Captain
Worthington writing to Mrs. Pattersonm, says: "Your son was
working in the trenches about an hour before dawn on May 19 when
he was hit inj the neck by a straybullet. The men who were working
with him immediately went to his assistance, but he passed away
before anything could be done. His last words were ' Good-bye,
lads, I am hit.' "

18 february 1916, aged 23 years, resident 55, Rochdale Road, Blackley,

Posted to British Expeditionary Force, France, with 13th Battalion
