Private 27186, 8th Battalion, Welsh Regiment formerly 16103, Royal Lancashire Regiment. Killed in action at Gallipoli 8 August 1915. Aged 34. Born and enlisted Manchester, resident Ardwick, Lancashire. Son of the late James and Sarah Jane Tay, of 26, Middleton Old Rd., Blackley, Manchester. In the 1881 census he was aged 2, born Blackley, son of James and Sarah J Tay, resident Rochdale Road, Blackley, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1901 census he was aged 22, born Blackley, a Check Man, son of James and S J Tay, resident 26, Middleton Old Road, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey (including Gallipoli). Panel 140 to 144.

TAYLOR Joseph

Private 22877, 7th Battalion, King's (Shropshire Light Infantry). Died of wounds 17 December 1916. Aged 31. Born and enlisted Manchester, resident Blackley. Son of the late Thomas Henry and Kitty Taylor, of "The Flying Horse," Crab Lane, Blackley, Manchester; brother of William (below). In the 1891 census he was aged 5, born Blackley, a scholar, son of Thomas H and Kate Taylor, resident Crab Lane, St Andrews, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1901 census he was aged 15, born Blackley, a Crofter, son of Kitty Taylor (a widow), resident Flying Horse Tavern, Crab Lane, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census his parents were dead, he was aged 25, born Manchester, a Bricksetter, resident with his brothers and sisters at 16, Crab Lane, Higher Blackley, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in PUCHEVILLERS BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot VI. Row F. Grave 27.

FALLEN FIGHTERS

Pte. J. TAYLOR, K.S.L.I., age 31 years, of Crab Lane, Higher Blackley, Manchester, died of wounds December 16. He was well known in the district, and was a builder and contractor. Two of his brothers are serving in the army, one whom is home wounded.

Gunner 112676, 183rd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 28 November 1918. Aged 37. Born at Manchester. Son of E. L. Taylor; husband of Elizabeth Taylor, of 35, Dollond St., Blackley, Manchester. In the 1901 census he was aged 19, born Salford, a Pattern Card Maker, son of Vernon and Emma L Taylor, resident 11, Annis Street, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 29, born Salford, a Cotton and C Warehouseman, husband of Elizabeth with one daughter and one son, resident with his parents-in-law at 44, Glenfield Street, Blackley, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire. Buried in VALENCIENNES (ST. ROCH) COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot I. Row F. Grave 9.

Private 31414, 21st Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Wounded in action 2 April 1917 with gunshot wounds to the legs, died of wounds 3 April 1917. Born Blackley, Manchester, enlisted Manchester. Brother of Joseph (above). In the 1891 census he was aged 8, born Blackley, a scholar, son of Thomas H and Kate Taylor, resident Crab Lane, St Andrews, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1901 census he was aged 18, born Blackley, a Stamper, son of Kitty Taylor (a widow), resident Flying Horse Tavern, Crab Lane, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 28, born Manchester, a Bettler, resident with his brothers and sisters at 16 Crab Lane Hr Blackley, North Manchester, Lancashire. Attested 16 November 1916 in Manchester, aged 33 years 5 months, a Beetler by trade, unmarried, resident 16, Crab Lane, Higher Blackley, Manchester, height 5 feet 3½ inches, weight 112 lbs, chest 35 inches, pale complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, religious denomination Church of England, brother of Nellie Taylor (next of kin). Posted to 25th Reserve Battalion, Manchester Regiment, emarked Folkestone, disembarked Bloulogne 20 May 1916, arrived Etaples 21 May 1916, posted 21st Battalion, Expeditionary Force, France 21 May 1916. Buried in EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, COLINCAMPS, Somme, France. Plot IV. Row G. Grave 1.
TETLOW Fred
Private 39770, 23rd Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Killed in action 16 March 1917. Born and enlisted Manchester. In the 1901 census he was aged 5, born Blackley, son of Abrom and Mary Jane Tetlow, resident 1, Little Lane, North Manchester, Prestwich, Lancashire. Attested 18 November 1915 in Manchester, aged 20 years 1 month, resident 1 Little Lane, Crab Lane, Higher Blackley, manchester, a Dyer by trade, unmarried, height 5 feet 6 inches, weight 133 lbs, chest 35 inches, pale complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair. Enlisted as Private 5451, 8th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Transferred to 39770, 3rd Battalion, Manchester Regiment 23 October 1916, posted 16th Battalion 1 November 1916, with B.E.F. to France 1 November 1916 then transferred back to 3rd Battalion 3 November 1916, posted 2nd Battalion 12 December 1916 and then finally 23rd Battalion, 26 January 1917. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 13 A and 14 C.

Private 2843, 1st Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). Killed in action 23 May 1915. Aged 35. Born and enlisted Manchester. Husband of Edith (nee Dawe) Thurgood, of 56, Grant St., Blackley, Manchester, married 29 March 1902 Harpurhey, St Stephen, Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 31, born Oldham, Lancashire, a Stationary Engine Driver, married to Edith with three sons and a daughter, resident 4, Barkstone Street, Harpurhey, Manchester, North Manchester, Lancashire.
