World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Gill Cannell & Andrew Dishman 2017

The memorial is located outside the Fire Station, Market Street. The plinth is made of granite and the figure of a soldier, in bronze. The memorial has a two-stepped base surmounted by square plinth with soldier standing at ease with rifle. The whole is set in a small memorial garden. The memorial was unveiled on 9 November 1924. There are three inscribed plaques; the first commemorates the Carnforth soldiers who died during World War 1; the second, with a relief entitled ‘Off to the Front’, commemorates those who died whilst still in service between 1918 and 1924, and the third commemorates those who died during and after Wold War 2.
