The memorial stands in the grounds of St Nicholas chruch and takes the form of a canopied stone cross with inscriptions on the plinth all standing on a five-stepped base. There are 10 names for World War 1 and one for World War 2.

ARMSTRONG	Thomas William	Sapper WR/268585, 296th Railway Company, Royal Engineers. Died 19th February 1919 in the casualty clearing station, Mons, Belgium. Aa notice to this effect appeared in the Grantham journal from his wife of Barkston le Willows and also stated that he wasaged 31. Born Brandon, in the parish of Hough on the Hill 1888. Buried in MONS (BERGEN) COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Hainaut, Belgium. Plot X. Row B. Grave 10. Also commemorated on Hough on the Hill war memorial.
BLACKBOURN	James W	Military Medal. L/Corporal 49763. 10th Battalion, Essex Regiment, formerly 4901 Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds home 29th December 1918 (SDGW has 4th September 1918, this is possible date of wounding), aged 29 years. Son of George Henry and Mary Blackbourn of Denton, Lincs. Enlisted Grantham and resident Barrowby, Lincs. Commemorated BARKSTON (St Nicholas) CHURCHYARD.
BRADFORD	Arthur Edward	Corporal 42667. 8th Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment, formerly 16845 Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 20th August 1918, aged 21 years. Son of James Clarkson and Martha Bradford of Barkston, Lincs. Born Barkston, Lincs, enlisted Nottingham, Notts and resident Grantham, Lincs. Commemorated SANDPITS BRITISH CEMETERY, Fouquereuil. IV.D.5.
DOLBY	Joseph	Private 23202. 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 16th November 1916. Born Barkston, enlisted Grantham and resident Barkston, Lincs. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. Pier and Face 1C.
DRURY	Ernest	Private 27595. 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 21st October 1917, aged 29 years. Son of Bavin and Betsy Drury of Barkston, Lincs. Born Sedgebrook, enlisted Grantham and resident Barkston, Lincs. Commemorated PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL. Panel 3.
EMBLING	Elijah	Private 9309. 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 24th August 1914, aged 20 years. Son of (the late) Matthew Elijah Embling and Maria Dolby (formerly Embling) of Barkston, Lincs. Born Leicester, Leics, enlisted Lincoln and resident Laceby, Lincs. Commemorated LA FERTE-SOUS-JOUARRE MEMORIAL.
FOVARGUE	George	Private 18524. 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 4th October 1917. Born and enlisted Grantham, resident Barkston, Lincs. Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL. Panel 35 to 37 and 162 to 162A.
HIGGINS	Alfred Henry	Private 12390. 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Died of wounds 8th June 1918. Aged 24. Born Grantham, Lincs, enlisted Sutton in Ashfield, Notts and resident Hoby, Leics. Brother of Lucy Featherstone, of Rearsby, Leicestershire. Buried in AUCHONVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot II. Row L. Grave 1.
WATSON	Bernard	Private 203704. 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 26th September 1917. Born Barkston and enlisted Grantham, Lincs. Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL. Panel 35 to 37 and 162 to 162A.
WATSON	John Charles	Corporal 7722. 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Killed in action 1st November 1914, aged 31 years. Son of George and Mary Emma Watson of Barkston, Lincs. Born Barkston, Lincs and enlisted Sheffield, Yorks. Commemorated LE TOURET MEMORIAL. Panel 31.
Their name liveth for evermore.Erected by the people of Barkston as a record of their gratitude.
Also to the memory of Jack M Banks who died in the war 1939 – 1945.
