BILLINGHAY WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and Copyright © Michael Peck 2007
additional information Michael Donat

Billinghay has a main memorial in the village and then several others in the church. The village memorial stands at the crossroads of Victoria Street and Church Street and takes the form of a two-stepped base surmounted by a double plinth and column with a carved insignia on the top. There are 35 names for World War 1 and 5 for World War 2. The church of St Michael's in Church Lane contains memorials for World War 1 and World War 2 plus a Roll of Honour for those who served in World War 1; there are also individual plaques within the church. The World War 1 plaque is wall mounted, made from brass, with a fine balck border and a lation cross preceding the inscription. The World War 1 plaque is the same construct as that for World War 1. On the wall is a framed and glazed Roll of Honour in hadwritten script containing details of all those who served in World War 1 from the village. The majroity of the names on the village memorial and the chruch memorial concur but there are some on one that are not on the other.
