World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

There are two Roll of Honours which also act as memorials within the church of St Margaret, Bucknall. The first list those from the parish who served in World War 1 with those who did not return identified with RIP. This is an ornate, hand created Roll of Honopur in a frame. Four men did not return from World War 1. The second memorial takes the form of a wooden plaque listing those who went to War in both conflicts with the names of those who did not return highlighted with RIP. A further stone tablet on the wall lists those who died in World War 1.

Private 129408, 16th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Died Between 4 and 7 September 1916. Aged 22. Born 29 July 1894 in Middlesboro, Yorkshire. Son of William Henry and Fannie Benson-Brown, of The Vicarage, Woodhall Spa, Lincs. Educated at Horncastle Grammar School. Rancher by trade. Enlisted 17 September 1915 at Vancouver, Canada, passed fit 8 June 1915. Height 5 feet 10½ inches, girth 36 inches, complexion fair, eyes blue, hair light brown; religion Church of England. Buried in SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No.2, Somme, France. Plot XXIV. Row O. Grave 1. National Archives of Canada Accession Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1167 - 3

FLETCHER Joseph William
Lance Corporal 67666, 114th Coy. Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Killed in action 3 September 1917, age 28. Born 6 May 1889, bpt 2 Jun 1889, Bucknall, son of Thomas and Rebekah Elizabeth Jane (née Skipworth) Fletcher of Horsington, Lincs. Pre-war occupation farm labourer. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 154 to 159.
WINTERTON Arthur Larrad
Private R3/16385, 3rd Bn. attd. 1st Bn. Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 5 April 1917, age 37. Born 1880, son of Thomas Larrad and Harriet Agnes (née Mulford) Winterton of Grantham, Lincs, husband of Annie (née Parrish) Winterton, father of Agnes Annie & Thomas Arthur. Attested April 1915 Lincoln, previously a tailor. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot XXII. Row E. Grave 17A.
