THE
GREAT SACRIFICE.—Two
more Digby have laid down their lives in France. Private William
Parker (28), South Staffs. Labour Company, had made his home for
10 years with Mr. T. Hanson, of Digby. He was employed by Messrs.
P. F. Brown and E. P. Bell. His last leave was spent in Digby
just before Xmas. Letters from Sapper J. A. Reeste and Nurse Douglas
state that "He died in hospital from a wound received in
the head from a piece of bomb. He was admitted on 19th March,
with a badly fractured skull and did not regain consciousness
at all. He was operated on, but was hopeless from the first. He
was made warm and comfortable and be suffered no pain. He will
have decent Christian burial in the pretty little cemetery near,
with military honours among his comrades."
