HOLBEACH ALL SAINTS WAR MEMORIAL

There is an exterior memorial that stands outside the church of All Saints. It takes the form of a wheel cross on a long shaft, on the front of which is a Sword of Sacrifice in relief, standing on a plinth with a two-stepped base. The inscription is on the front face and a further stone in front of the memorial states the years, the whole is in a paved area with irona railings surrouding. There are no names inscribed on the memorial, these are to be found on two plaques within the church. These are in the form of ornately surrounded plaques with gold letting listing the two sets of men who fell in each war. The World War 2 plaque has since been added to and has an extra concrete inset below it bearing the extra names. There are 85 names for World War 1 and 29 names for World War 2.

Height 5 feet 4 inches, chest 35½ inches, hair brown, eyes brown, complexion fresh. Before enlisting he was an Apprentice Printer. Son of Herbert Carter, of Church Street, Holbeach. HOWARD	James	Born 19 May 1882 in Holbeach. He joined under a special arrangement to work on Land Drainage for the Royal Engineers. He was discharged as being no longer physically fit for service on 15 December 1916 and died in Holbeach where he was buried in Holbeach Cemetery on 7th April 1917.
