HOLBEACH ST JOHN'S WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial stands in a small, fenced enclosure at a bend in the village’s main road (B1168). It takes the form of a two-stepped stone base on which is mounted a double plinth with tapering pedestal and an obelisk. The inscription can be found on three sides of the plinth in gold lettering. There are 16 names for World War 1 and 3 for World War 2.

1914-1918.

CARTWRIGHT	Jabez	14428 Pte, 8th Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 4-10-17. Living Holbeach Drove. Adopted son of Mrs M A Smith, 19 Blinco Rd, Peterborough. Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
COLEMAN	Alan	Private 42527, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 23 October 1918, age 20. Born Holbeach, St. John's, enlisted Lincoln, resident Holbeach. Son of William and Catherine Coleman, of Holbeach St John's, Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Holbeach, resident with hiSt Johns Holbeach, Holbeach, Lincolnshires parents at St Johns Holbeach, Holbeach, Lincolnshire.
