HUMBERSTON WAR MEMORIAL

The war village memorial is to be found in the grounds of St Peter's Church, Humberston. The memorial takes the for of a Celtic Cross mounted on a two-stepped plinth all standing on a square base, either side of the memorial are two flower vases the the whole is encircled by a low stone wall on a stone base. There are 9 names for World War 1 and 8 for World War 2.

Frank Norman

Sergeant 801040. B Bty, 295th Bde, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds 1st April 1918. Born 1885 in Luton, Beds, enlisted Grimsby, Lincs. Married Caroline Robinson in 1908 in Lincolnshire and had a son who was born in Humberston, Lincolnshire. Commemorated DOULLENS COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION No: Section 1. Plot VI. Row F. Grave 12.

FISK

James George

Deck Hand 308DA. Royal Naval reserve. HM Trawler Marion. Died 23rd February 1918, aged 27 years. Son of (the late) James George and Eliza Jane Fisk of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Commemorated CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL. 30.

JENNISON

Alfred Denzil

2nd Lieutenant. 14th Battalion, The Kings (Liverpool Regiment). Died 17th (15th on memorial) September 1916. Commemorated PIETA MILITARY CEMETERY. C.XIII.3.

LANE

Eric Arthur Milner

Private 1335, Lancashire yeomanery then Second Lieutenant, machester Regiment. Killed in action 8 March 1916. Served in France before going to Mesopotamia. Son of Humberston vicar, Reverend Frederick J. Lane, and his wife, Hannah. No known grave. Commemorated on Basra memorial, Iraq.

PARKER

Robert

Private 1142. 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 1st July 1916, aged 31 years. Son of William Youhill and Sarah Elizabeth Parker of Humberston, Lincs. Born Humberston, enlisted Grimsby and resident Goxhill, Lincs. Commemorated SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No: 2. XXXV.A.15.

RUSSELL

Frederick

Memorial states died 25th January 1918. Only Fred Russell that date is Private 1728. 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 25th January 1918. Son of Mrs Mary Russell of 5 Cambridge Street, Cleethorpes, Lincs. Born Binbrook, enlisted Grimsby and resident Cleethorpes, Lincs. Commemorated FINS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, Sorel-Le-Grand. IV.A.1.

SHAW

Memorial states died 22nd June 1916. Only Eric Shaw that date is Private 5617. 20th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action 22nd June 1916. Son of Mr J Shaw of High Street, Nafferton, Yorks. Born Driffield, Yorks, enlisted Manchester, and resident Preston, Lancs. Commemorated GORRE BRITISH AND INDIAN CEMETERY. II.C.4.

Lieutenant. Royal Horse Guards (Blues). Died of wounds 19th May 1915, aged 20 years. Commemorated MOULSOE (St Mary) CHURCHYARD.

This monument was erected by the parishioners of Humberston
in conjunction with the parents and friends of the departed.
The parish war records are preserved in a book which is kept in the church
