World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and Copyright © Michael Peck 2007
additional information Michael Donat

The village war memorial is to be found within the garden on the High Street, Metheringham. It takes the form of a soldier wearing cap with head bowed, in mourning pose with rifle reversed, surmounting rectangular pedestal. The soldier wears cap badge of Lincolnshire Regiment. The cornice of the pedestal is decorated with a carved frieze including a depiction of cap and rifle. The memorial was unveiled by the Marchioness of Carisbrooke and dedicated by Rev. William Ignatius Snell Rawson on 12th December 1920; it cost £600 from public subscription; the mason was Mr Frederick William Baldock. The land for the memorial was given by Lord Londesborough. There are 42 names for World War 1 and 8 for World War 2. There is a further plaque to the men who died in World War 1 inside the church.
