This tablet was placed here by the people of Sutton St James
in grateful remembrance of those men from the village
who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-19.

226045 Pte, 10th (1st Hull - Commercials) East Yorkshire Regiment. 12-4-18, age 28. Son of Shepherd and Phoebe Allcock, of Sutton St James. Husband of Bertha Mildred Allcock, of New Basford, Notts. Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.



200520 Pte, 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 12-4-18, age 34. Born Holbeach, enlisted Luton, living Wisbech. Son of Mrs B J Barnard, Scrimshaw Cottage, Gedney Fen. Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinghe, Belgium.



15760 Pte, 6th Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 28-11-15, Born & living Wisbech, enlisted Spalding. Jephson's Post sector, Gallipoli. Azmack Cemetery, Turkey. Also listed Tydd St Giles.


Thomas Parkinson

895141 Pte, 50th Canadian Infantry (Alberta Rgt). Died 26-10-17. Husband of Mrs Maud Cracknell, 118, 15th Ave, Calgary. Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial to the Missing. Born 24-8-1888 in Lincolnshire. Enlisted 14-6-16 at Calgary.

42457 Pte, 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 23-10-18, age 19. Born Gedney, enlisted Lincoln, living Sutton St James. Son of Stephen and Susannah Earle, of Holland Bank, Sutton St James. Formerly 3/61477 Lincs Regiment. Montay British Cemetery, Nord, France.

4827, Pte, 1/4th Lincolnshire Regiment. Dow 14-8-16, age 34. Enlisted Holbeach, living Sutton St James. Husband of Daisy Farrow, 3 Napier Terrace, New Walsoken. Warlincourt British Cemetery, Saulty, Pas de Calais.



62526 Pte, 4th (Extra Reserve) North Staffordshire Regiment. Died of wounds home 8-5-19, age 21. Sutton St James (St James) Churchyard.



17699 Pte, 2nd Suffolk Regiment. Died of wounds 26-9-17, age 28. Born Tydd St Giles, enlisted Wisbech. Son of Frederick and Eliza Reddin, of Sutton St James. Dochy Farm New British Cemetery, Belgium. Also listed Wisbech & Walsoken.


Wilfred Templeton

2nd Lt, 47th Balloon Sect, Royal Flying Corps. Died of accidental injuries 14-7-17, age 25. Son of William Frederick and Helena Samuels, of Sutton St James. Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.


Percival Hutchinson

Pte, 3/4th Lincolnshire Regiment. Died 20-4-16, age 19. Buried in Sutton St James (St James) Churchyard. Son of William Frederick (former head of the village school) and Helena Samuels, of Sutton St James. Brother of above.



22675 Pte, 7th Lincolnshire Regiment. 3-11-16, age 19. Born Holbeach, enlisted Lincoln, living Long Sutton. Son of James and Martha Ann Jane Spinks, of Moors Wood, Long Sutton. Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.



241353 Pte, 2/5th Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 11-4-17, age 21. Born Sutton St James, enlisted Holbeach, living Wisbech. Son of ex-PC William Henry Taylor and Mary Ann Taylor, of Sutton St James. Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

GRATTAN Robert Thomas Signaller 25107451, Royal Corps of Signals. Died 23 October 2001. Aged 18. Born 30 January 1983. Buried in St James Cemetery, Sutton, Lincolnshire.

HEANES Richard Clifton

Lance Corporal 4078, 'C' Squadron, 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers. Killed at Krugersdorp. South Africa 17 April 1901. Aged 24. Son of Jonathan Clifton & Mary Ann Heanes. Reported for conspicuous gallantry bringing men out of action at Brandfort 25 March 1900. Also commemorated on Royal Garrison Church, West end, Plaque, 9th Lancers, Aldershot, Hampshire, England.
