TALLINGTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

Within St Lawrence Parish Church, Church Lane, Tallington can be found a memorial to those who died in World War 1 and a Roll of Honour to those who served in the same conflict. The war memorial takes the form of bronze plaque and contains 6 names. The Roll of Honour is in the form of is wall mounted framed and glazed. The names are handwritten in two columns within an illustrated border of leaves and flowers. The words 'Roll of Honour' are curved across the top of the memorial and beneath this is an illustration of a laurel wreath within which is a Union flag and the remainder of the dedication is written within a banner. There are 33 names listed, 31 served and returned, 2 died according to the Roll. Those on the Roll of Honour who appear on the memorial are marked with a .

2nd Lieutenant. 10th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. Killed in action 14th October 1916, aged 22 years. Son of (the late) Rev John and Mrs Elliott. Commemorated BECOURT MILITARY CEMETERY, Becordel-Becourt. I.Y.15.

Private, 3rd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment on memorial. Appears to be Robert French, born Tallington, Lincs c 1877, the son of Samuel and Jane French. Unable to identify CWGC/SDGW and no further information currently.

GRAY

William Robert

Private G/10210. 1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Killed in action 15th July 1916. Born Tallington, Lincs, enlisted Mill Hill and resident Willesdon, Middlesex. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. Pier and Face 12D and 13B.

JARVIS

James Herbert

Private G/40206. 11th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Killed in action 12th May 1917, aged 19 years. Son of Fanny Jarvis of Church Lane, Tallington, Lincs. Born Tallington, Lincs, enlisted Willesden and resident College Park, Middlesex. Commemorated ARRAS MEMORIAL. Bay 7.

KING

Donald Howard

Corporal 200769. 4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action Palestine 2nd November 1917, aged 21 years. Son of Harry and Emily King of Station House, Ranskill, Notts. Born Doncaster, Yorks and enlisted Peterborough, Northants. Commemorated GAZA WAR CEMETERY. XV.A.4.

Lance Corporal 55173. Lincolnshire Yeomanry. Died of wounds Palestine 3rd December 1917, aged 22 years (21 years on individual plaque). Son of Mr G.H and Mrs L.M.S Wass of Tallington, Lincs. Born Tallington, enlisted Stamford and resident Tallington, Lincs. Commemorated GAZA WAR CEMETERY. XII.E.2.
