The
Brockdish war memorial is sited near the south porch of the Church of
St Peter and St Paul, Brockdish, and is in the form of a simple gothic,
Portland Stone, cross on a square plinth. Three sides have the names
of the dead in alphabetical order, for World War 1; there is a small
additional stone footplate on the fourth side to the two dead of World
War 2.

Scole, Norfolk. Native of Weybread, Suffolk. In the 1911 census
his relationship is listed as Page Boy, single, aged 16, born brockdish,
resident with Ernest Wentworth Wade, a Doctor, at London Road, Harleston.
Buried in LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

September 1884 at Brockdish. Son of Walter and Amelia Butcher, of
Brockdish; husband of Agnes Butcher, of Brockdish, Diss, Norfolk.
Joined the Army Reserve 24 June 1916, entered the service 4 August
1917, with draft B.E.F. 3 December 1917, joined Anson battalion
18 December 1917 until his death. No known grave. Commemorated on
ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 1.

Diss, Norfolk; brother of William James who also died (see below).
In the 1911 census he is living with his parents, aged 19, single,
a Farm Labourer, born Needham, resident at Old Chapel Yard, Brockdish,
Scole. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme,
