OXNEAD WAR MEMORIAL

The Oxnead memorial is to be found within St Michael and All Angels Church, Marsham Road, Oxnead. It takes the form of a rectangular board with a carved frame and the names and dedication separated by a horizontal division. It lists the men from the village that served, 11 men, who all returned, no casualties.

BARBER, MM Horace William
Corporal 12427, 7th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Disembarked 30 May 1915. Transferred to 'Z' Class Army Reserve on Demobilization 4 March 1919. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Married Olive Kathleen Mary Daniels in the April to June Quarter 1921 in Aylsham Registration District, Norfolk. In the Electoral Register for 1926 through 1931 he was resident, with his wife, near North Farm, Oxnead.
BARBER Harry H
Harry H Barber was born 25 March 1895. In the 1939 Register he was a Horseman On Farm, married to Violet A Barber (born 11 February 1893), resident near North Farm, Oxnead, Bawdeswell, St Faith's and Aylsham R.D., Norfolk.
HOWARD James
In the 1911 census he was aged 11, born Burgh, Norfolk, at school, son of James and Rebecca Howard, resident The Row Oxnead Buxton, Norfolk. In the 1920 Electoral Register he was resident near River, Oxnead.
HOWARD Charles [Edward]
Born 14 April 1891. Son of James Miller. Married Gertrude L Miller in Oxnead, Norwich 22 December 1921. In the 1939 Register he was a General Labourer Heavy Worker, married to Gertrude L Howard, resident Mill Cottages, Oxnead, Bawdeswell, St Faith's and Aylsham R.D., Norfolk. In the Electoral Register 1920 to 1931 listed as resident near River, Oxnead. Buried at Oxnead 24 June 1957, agede 66, resident The Row, Oxnead, Norwich, Norfolk.

In the 1911 census he was aged 19, born Brampton, Norfolk, at school, son of George and Emma Mack, brother of George (below), resident Hall Cottages, Oxnead, Buxton, Norfolk. In the 1920-1926 Electoral Registers he was resident near Hall, Oxnead.

Son of George and Catherine Mary Nobbs. In the 1891 census he was aged 1, born Oxnead, Norfolk, son of George and Catherine M Nobbs, resident Cottages, Oxnead Row, Oxnead, Aylsham, Norfolk. In the 1901 census he was aged 11, born Oxnead, Nrfolk, son of George and Catherine Nobbs, resident Cottages by the Mill (6), 6, Oxnead, Aylsham, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was aged 21, born Oxnead, Norfolk, a Motor Car Driver, servant to Charles Edward Hunter, resident Whitehall Sandwich, Worth, Kent. Resident Great Yarmouth 1914. Army Trade Mechanical transport Motor Lorry Driver. Attested 17 December 1914 in London, aged 24 years 11 months, a Motor Lorry Driver by trade, born Oxnead, resident Oxnead Row, Buxton Lanes, Norwich, single, height 5 feet 11½ inches, weight 160 lbs, chest 37-39½ inches, religious denomination Church of England. Appointed Acting Corporal with 28th Ammunition Sub-Park 1 August 1915. Served with the Expeditionary Force in France 16 January 1915 to 1 August 1915 and then from 19 September 1915 to Demobilization. Admitted to 2nd Western Central Hospital, Manchester 5 March 1917 to 17 April 1917 with Pleurisy. Transferred to 'Z' Class Army Reserve on Demobilization 11 August 1919. Embarked fro England aboard H.T. "Hardinge" 21 March 1919. Married Lilly gertrude Gostling 16 Junly 1925 in Oxnead.
