The
Rockland St Peter war memorials are to be found in the parish church.
The World War 1 memorial is in the form of a marble tablet and bears
the names of eight men who fell in World War 1. The World War 2 memorial
is in the form of a handwritten, framed, scroll and contains the name
of six men who made the supreme sacrifice (the latter has still to be
transcribed).

Private
18219 Herbert Barham was born in Rockland St. Peter c1884. He enlisted
in the 9th Norfolk Regiment in Norwich. He served in France & Flanders
and was killed in action on 18th October 1916 aged ~32. He is remembered
on the Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 1C and 1D and on the Rockland
St. Peter War Memorial. He was the son of William Barham, of Rockland
St. Peter. |

1706 Edward Ernest Curson was born in Rockland c1896. He enlisted
in the 45th Battalion Australian Imperial Forces in Holdsworthy,
New South Wales Australia, on 2nd September 1915. He served in France
and Flanders and was killed in action on 7th June 1917 aged 21.
He is remembered on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial Panel 7 - 17 -
23 - 25 - 27 - 29 - 31 and on the Rockland St Peter War Memorial.
He was the son of William and Ellen Curson, of "Edgecombe, Telegraph
Road, Pymble, New South Wales and a native of Rockland St. Peter,
Attleborough, England. |

33066 Bertie Kidd was born in Rickenhall c1897. He originally enlisted
as 7013 in the Middlesex Regiment in Attleborough, then later transferred
to the 2nd Border Regiment. He served in France & Flanders and was
killed in action on 26th October 1917 aged 20. He is remembered
on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 85 to 86 and Rockland St. Peter War
Memorial. He was the son of George and Emily Kidd, of Rockland All
Saints, and a resident of Rockland St. Peter. |
LEECH |
William |
Private
16725 William Leech was born in Rockland St. Peter c1882. He enlisted
in the 1st Norfolk Regiment in Norwich. He served in France & Flanders
and died of wounds received on 21st July 1915 in hospital at Epsom
aged 33. He is buried at Rockland All Saints Churchyard South-West
part and is remembered on the Rockland St. Peter War Memorial. He
was the son of Joseph Leech and the late Hannah Leech. |
LINCOLN |
Charles |
Private
200176 Charles Lincoln was born in Rockland All Saints. He enlisted
in the 1st/4th Norfolk Regiment in Watton. He served in Palestine
and was killed in action on 19th April 1917. He is buried at Gaza
War Cemetery Grave XXIII. F. 4 and is remembered on the Rockland
St Peter War Memorial. |

17617 Frederick Lincoln was born in Rockland St. Peter. He enlisted
in the 7th Norfolk Regiment in Norwich. He served in France & Flanders
and died on 23rd July 1918. He is buried at Cambrai East Military
Cemetery Grave VII. A. 9 and is remembered on the Rockland St. Peter
War Memorial. |

Corporal 7187 Maynard John William Thurston was born in Hingham
c1881. He enlisted in the 7th Norfolk Regiment in Norwich. He served
in France & Flanders and was killed in action on 2nd April 1916
aged 35. He is buried at Vermelles British Cemetery and is remembered
on the Rockland St. Peter War Memorial. He was the son of the late
John Thurston and of Sophia Newby (formerly Thurston) of Rockland
St. Peter. |
