SOUTH LOPHAM WAR MEMORIAL

The South Lopham war memorial is to be found at the junction of the A1066 and B1113 in South Lopham. It takes the form of a foliated stone cross set on a tapering column that in turn is mounted on a square stone plinth that bears the inscription and names in black lettering. There are ten names listed for World War 1 and three for World War 2.Mr J Cooley was the stonemason.

Private 3/6211. 1st Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 11th April 1916. Born South Lopham and enlisted Norwich, Norfolk. Buried Faubourg D’Amiens Cemetery. I.A.32.

HAWES Godfrey [Charles]
Private G/24525. 7th Battalion, Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment), formerly 9388 Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 18th November 1916. Born South Lopham, enlisted Norwich and resident South Lopham, Norfolk. Buried Stump Road Cemetery. A.43.

Unable to identify Albert Halls. Possibly Albert George Hall born circa 1897 South Lopham, the son of William and Emma Hall and enlists as Private 5360. 4th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 3249 Norfolk Regiment. Died 4th December 1916. Enlisted Norwich, Norfolk. Buried St Sever Cemetery Extension. O.III.G.3.
HALLS Edward
Unable to identify Edward Halls. Possibly Edward Hall born c1889 South Lopham, the son of William and Emma Hall and enlists as Private 52509. 1st Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 41114 Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Killed in action 19th September 1918. Born South Lopham, enlisted Attleborough and resident Thetford, Norfolk. Missing and commemorated Vis-En-Artois Memorial. Panel 4.
