STOW BEDON WAR MEMORIAL

The Stow bedon War memorial stands in the grounds of the parish church. It takes the form of an crossornate with shaft standing on a three tiered plinth plinth with a one stepped base. The inscription and names for World War 1 are on the front face of the plinth, there are ten names. on the next tier down, on the front face, is the one, single, name for World War 2.

Born 1894 Rockland St Peter (as SDGW, census has born Rockland All Saints) and enlisted Norwich, Norfolk. Buried Felixstowe New Cemetery. J.7.

DOWNES Bertie
Private 22338. 3rd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment, transferred to 438263 with 696th Agricultural Company, Labour Corps. Died 14th November 1918. Son of James and Alice Downes. Born 1889 Stow Bedon, Norfolk and no trace SDGW. Buried Stow Bedon (St Botolph) Churchyard.

Birth record not found, second forename not identified and Joe or Joseph Harvey on records possiblly Private 81586. 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, formerly 44083 York and Lancaster Regiment. Killed in action 29th May 1918, aged 28 years. Son of Robert and Sarah Harvey of Lower Stow Bedon, Norfolk. Born Stow Bedon, Norfolk, enlisted Mexborough and resident Kilnhurst, YKS. Missing and commemorated Soissons Memorial.

Birth recorded 1895 as William Perry H Perry, appears 1901 as William Perry Halls with Grandparents Robert and Frances Maria Perry, parentage unknown. Appears 1911 as William Perry with G/parents, enlists as William Perry Halls.
