DEATH
OF FRED CLIPSTON.
COBBLERS' PLAYER PASSES AWAY IN HOSPITAL
Supporters of the Cobblers will hear with much regret of the death
of Fred Clipston, for several seasons the club's right full-back.
He passed away at the Kettering General Hospital last nght after
an illness which developed last October, following an attack of
influenza.
Clipston,
it will be recalled, was serving with the Royal Air Force when
the Cobblers resumed league football last September, and it was
not until October that he made his re-appearance with the team.
Ater playing in three matches, however, he fell victim to influenza,
from which a serious illness developed, and news of his death
will not come as a surprise to his friends.
Clipston,
who was born at Geddington, near Kettering, 33 years ago, was
secured by the Cobblers from the Portsmouth club in 1911, and
up to the outbreak of the war he was always first choice for the
right back position. In that capacity he served the defence splenidly,
and he was greatly missed last season. His death at an earlyage
will be mourned by a host of friends, for his ready wit made him
extremely popular wherever he went.
