The
unveiling of the WW1 war memorial at Port Stanley in 1919. Clearly present
are a detachment of Royal Marines, Navy band, Army, choristers and public.
A further memorial has been added with a wall and memorial plaques for
the Falklands Conflict. The names of the fallen appear on the various
plates around the wall. The names of those who gave their lives in the
Falklands conflict can be found in the database
section.
A
stone column surmounted by a bronze figure of Britannia stands in a
paved area, against the back wall of which are ten bronze panels with
the names of the dead and one with a depiction of the people and machines
involved in the conflict. The column bears in incised gold lettering
the inscription:
IN
MEMORY OF
THOSE WHO
LIBERATED US
14 JUNE 1982
It
also lists all the units which took part in the conflict [not transcribed
here]. The names of the dead have also not been transcribed here, since
detailed rolls of honour are available at
Falkland
