Pozieres Memorial, France

Photographs Copyright © Lynda Smith 2002

The Pozieres Memorial is 6 km. North-east of Albert. Tablets set into the wall surrounding the cemetery bear the names of over 14,000 casualties from the United Kingdom and 300 South Africans, who have no known grave.

The names are grouped by Regiment, most of which are represented here.

Nearby is a small café, at the rear of which is a mock-up of a trench. Both the Allied and German sides are represented, and many of the artefacts in the display were collected locally, over the years.
