In the 1881 census he was aged 5, a scholar, born Woodstock, resident with his parents, John and Mary Ann, in Cottage, Old Woodstock, Wootton, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 35, a general labourer, born Woodstock, resident Woodstock. Brother of Sydney (below). |

Re-enlisted in 1914 aged 44 years 89 months, married at the time, wife resident 5 New Road, Woodstock. He was 5 feet 5 inches, weighed 140 lbs, chest 35 inches, brown eyes, brown hair, religious denomination Church of England. He served in France from 5 October 1914 through to 16 July 1915 when he was sent home after being gassed in the field, discharged from the Army on 10 September 1918 being deemed unfit for active service (Silver Badge 448162), aged 48. Died 1924, death registered in the April to June Quarter 1924, in Woodstock Registration District, Oxfordshire, aged 56. Married Clara May Pittick at Woodstock 8 July 1896. This man, Sidney John Taylor, was born Oxfordshire, a glove cutter, in the 1911 census he was aged 42, resident with his wife, Clara, and their six children, at Brook Hill, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. In the 1881 census he was the son of John and Mary Ann Taylor, aged 13, a scholar, born Woodstock, resident Cottage, Old Woodstock, Wootton, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Brother of Herbert (above). Children listed at the time of enlistment were Ralph Pittick (aged 13 b. 13 May 1902), Lisa Evelyn (aged 11 b. 8 July 1903), Sidney Archer (aged 7 b. 4 July 1906), Hilda Beatrice (aged 4 b. 7 June 1909) and Charles Frederick (aged 2 b. 14 February 1912). Originally enlisted at Colchester 22 December 1887, as Gunner 65219, Royal Field Artillery, aged 19 years 1 month, glover by trade, discharged on termination of his first period of engagement 19 December 1903. Served in India 26 February 1889 to 4 January 1896 and the South African (Boer) War from 18 January 1900 to 13 November 1900 being at Cape Colony, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Belfast. He was the son of Mary Ann Taylor of Woodstock. |
