LUNNASTING WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information

The Lunnasting war memorial is to be found at Lunnasting, Shetland. It takes the form of a rough hewn obelisk with relief of cross towards top, relief of crossed sword and furled flag with years 1914 – 1918 and a name panel worked into stone. The Second World War panel was added to base which is two stepped. The whole is surrounded by a low wall. There are ten names for World War 1 and eight names for World War 2.

Able Seaman, Mercantile Marine. SS ‘Ribsta’ (London). Died 16th July 1917, aged 29 years. Son of William and (the late) Laura Jamieson (nee Sutherland) of Leveneep Vidlin, Shetland Islands. Commemorated Tower Hill Memorial.
