The
War Memorial is situated at the side of the road outside the churchyard.
It takes the form of a Latin Cross on a three stepped base, all made
from granite. There are twenty names for World War 1 and five for World
War 2. The original memorial was unveiled 18th July 1920 and reported
in the East Anglian Daily Times 19th July 1920.

Royal Navy, HMS Hood. Died 24/05/1941. Age 23. Son of the Venerable
Thomas Robert Browne, Archdeacon of Ipswich and Ellen Gertrude Browne
of Elmsett Rectory. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
On 24th May 1941, the battle cruiser HMS Hood, together with HMS
Prince of Wales, engaged the German Battleship Bismark and the Heavy
Cruiser Prinz Eugen in the Denmark Straights. HMS Hood received
several direct hits and blew up, only 3 of her 1,418 crew survived |
